Thursday, Junk 5, 1890. Present— Mr liOthbridgo (Mayor), Cr T. R.' Chamberlain, "W. E. Chamberlain Saridilands, Rutherford, Goodfaehere J. C. Thompson and S. J. Thompson. The minutes of the previous ordinary and a special meeting were read and con finned. . CORRESPONDENCE. From J. H. Stevens, asking the name of Samuel Daw to be put on the rate roll for sections 141 and 142. From the Auditor-General's office, with form to be filled in giving particulars oJ loans. ' ' From Collector of Customs, Wanganui, asking for the name of Mrs Galbraith to be put on the roll for sections 653, 654, and 668. . From E. R. Fowlea, asking his name to be placed on the roll as agent for owner of section 518. From F. Keen, asking for transfer of -the name of M. Keen to thai of his own on the rate roll. From W. Murray and H. F. Jannings, for transfer on rate roll of the name of the latter to that of the former for section 203. From Finance Committee, recommend; ing the payment of accounts amounting to £80 88 sa. The Mayor, Mr Letabridge, mentioned that the Council had gravelled and ■metalled the road* early this year in order to have the work done and the roads made good before the winter set in. Account from J. T. Stewart, C.E., for services in drawing up report on the .Kiwitea stream, JJIjJ 10. From Messrs Fowles Bros., re certain •work required to be done by the roadman on Russell street. From Mr. Blackmore, poundkeeper, for information as to his position and responsibilities in relation to his connection with the ranger. From R. R. Collins and S. J. Thompson, asking that kerbing be placed along the footpath opposite their premises in £imbolton road. From Prior and Cooke, solicitors, ac•count for professional services, £2 12s 2d. From Dr D. Johnson, account for professional services. This had already been before the Council some months ago, and teld over. - Report of Mr J. T. Stewart, C.E., on the Kiwitea stream crossing the Kimbolton road. Mr Stewart recommended the deviation of the road, and the bridging of the stream higher up. The Mayor reported that the Public Works Committee had visited the bridge at Beattie street and they were of opinion the present ford would have to do, as the ■cost of making dp the bridge was greater than the mnds at the disposal of the Council would admit. Proposed by Cr W..E. Chamberlain, seconded by Cr Rutherford, That the Public "Works Committee inspect Russell street, »nd put the same in a proper state of repair. — Carried. Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Rutherford, That the, following alteration! on the roll be made as requested: — Trom J. H. Stevens to S. Paw; from D. Mcl£enzie to A. S. Galbraith ; from "Win Fowles to F. R. Fowles as agent ; from M. Keen to F. Keen ; from W. Murray to H. F. Janninga; from H. Holland to A. Sandflands, as agent for A. Onkin. ' Proposed by Cr Rutherford, seconded by Cr ■ Goodbehere, That Dr Johnston's account be paid. — Lost on division. Proposed by Cr W. E. Chamberlain, seconded by Cr T. R. Chamberlain, That the Council construct the footpath from Mr Daw's stables' to the. Red House, ao•cording.to Borough Bye Law 73. — Carxied. There was considerable discussion on ULr Blackmore's letter. Cr Goodbehere asked if it was legal for the Ranger to take charge of a horse that lias been hitched up. He quoted a case. The Mayor said if a definite charge, in •writing, were made the Council could deal ~with it. In reply to Cr Sandilands the Clerk reported that the rent of the pound was paid to date. Cr J. C. Thompson: Let us do away pound. (Laughter.) . Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded byCr J. C. Thompson, That the Mayor he asked to interview the poundkeeper and inform him that this Council intends to adhere to the terms of the lease, and ask him to sign the same ; and in case he refuses to do so the Council take necessary steps to resume control of the pound. — ■Carried. Tenders -for works were then opened and dealt with in the following resolutions: Proposed by: Cr J C. Thompson, seo<onded by Cr T. R. Chamberlain, That the tender of H. Coombe be acce'pted for the aroad work in the Cemetery, for the sum of £13 10s.— Carried. Proposed by Cr J. C. Thompson, seconded by Cr W. E. . Chamberlain, That the tenders for the footbridge on North street be returned, and that the Public Works Committee be requested to report at the special meeting next week, on the <Couneil undertaking the work by day labor.— Carried. . Proposed by Cr Goodbehere, seconded by Cr Rutherford, That a special meeting of this Council be held on Thursday the 12th instant, at 8 p.m., to discuss Mr J. T. Stewart's report re Kiwitea stream, bridge and other matter.— Carried. The meeting then adjourned.
