The day was beautifully fine, the crowd was not too, large, and- the various! e-yents were •fairly well contested. The spectators evinced considerable interest in the proceedings, notwithstauding some uncertainty as to which race had jnst been run or was about to be run, and why the bell was being continually rung. The stewards, although new to the work, really did very well, but they had' help. A number of competitors being ready to give advice whether it was wanted or not, on all occasions. The starter, Mr J. W. Burne, had a difficult task, eventually disqualifying one of the competitors for giving trouble at the post. Another competitor, Gt. Foster, was disqualified for not having sent in his performances to the handicapper. The results were as follows : — 1. Maiden Race, 200yds; post entry; open. Ist prize, 80s; 2nd, 10s. Acceptance, 2s 6d. G. Richardson, 1; M. Orbell, 2. Six started. Richardson got a bad start but ran through the field and won easily. 2.1 Bom' Handicap, 150yds ; post entry ; for boys under ;l^,>residents of Kiwitea Road Board District. Ist prize,' 10s ; 2nd, ss.
