Picard made no reply, the poor wpman cried out in -terror, 'Ah! you've poisoned me !\ The second , murder /was even more horrible aud; 'Parisian.' It occurred in the Btie Mange. Madame Mayeer, a woman in easy circumstances, emptied, a baain cont^tiuibg petroleum over her husband's head as he was writing,, and. set. fire -to his clothes before he recoveied from his surprise. Her then rushed out on the staircase, Irat his faitMul spouse had armed hefseU with a ievolver to 'make sure,' and fired at him repeatedly as he ran. -The third crime' was' 'the murder of a young wife who insisted upon going to the opera ball without her husband, AllUhese tragedies took place in ;o.he."| morning— rather an excessive number/ -even for Paris. '
