Sudden Death of Mr L. C. Richards
A painful sensation was created throughout the district when ;it became known that Mr L. 0. Richard*; of IDI--kern, had been found dead m his bed at tKe Railway Hotel, Marton, yesterday morning,- under mysterious circumstances. It appears that Mr Richards on Saturday night purchased a quantity of bluestone, a bottle of bird poison, and other things needed on his farm in Mart-, ton', and that he put the bird poison in his pocket to take it home with him. He stayed at the Railway Hotel for the night, and in the morning he .was found quite dead., The bottle of bird poison- was on the table in 'the bedroom, and a portion of its contents had been drunk. As, there i* pp reason to suspect that Mr Richards committed suicide, it is thought that he got up during the ni^ht to get a drink, and that he took some of the poison by mistake. An inquest will be held at the Railway Hotel this afternoon. Mr Richards was a yery old. settler, and deep sympathy is felt ; for hi? widow /and; fapjily. He leaves a wife and fourteen children, most of them being grown up. _ Advocate.' -. ,-_, •.-.•. / . . ..■ ■ . , ■
