The Amalgamated Shearers' Union wil* guard the New South Wales and South Australian borders, with a view of preventing shearers from those colonies joining the- non-union fnen, and they are arranging for a mounted patrol of 5000 men. . May 9. There is a very general feeling of ensternation throughout the colony at the possibility of a strike. Trade for the past three months has boen very had. On Monday a conference will be held between the Labour Federation and the squatters, when it is hoped an amicable arrangementf will arrived at. Sydney. May 8. The Railway Commissioners have purchased Eogers' patent railway ballaster for i'4ooo. The Lubeck, from Samoa, brings news that the American trading schooner H. L. nan founded at Offan Island. Eleven native passengers were drowned, but the" crew were rescued Two small vessels, belonging to Macarthur and Co., were lost, with three lives. Mblboubne, May 8.
