Football Meeting
Pursuant to notice a special genera meeting of members of the Feildmj Football Club was held on Tuesday nigh at Mr Donnelly's rooms Fergusson street There was g a tM. attendance. Mr, Kirtoi having been voted to the chair, read thi notice calling the meeting and invited M ■ Strachan, tbe secretary, to give details o the object of the said meeting. M Strachan said that at the meeting of dele Ijates of the Union held at Palmerstoi on Thursday last when the minute: . of the meeting held on May 10th 1889, were read in order that they migh be confirmed, an objection was raised tc the following resolution because the Wood ville and Feilding delegates had no recol lection of it;— " That Mr Haybittle's cuj be played for and won two years in sue cession, or three years at intervals before it becomes the property of any club.' They therefore declined to confirm the the minutes until the Feilding Club had teen consulted. He had consequently ■called the present meeting for the purpose of receiving the necessary authority. His impression, was certainly that their club Lad won the cup, and the discovery ol this resolution in the minutes was a sur T ■prise. ... '.•-"' The .chairman said his impression waa that Feilding had won the cup, and that the Palmerston men had held the same belief; but it was very easy for a misunv -derstandihg to arise, or a resolution passed in a hurry to be forgotten. He had, the greatest confidence in the good faith and honor of footballers as a class. If the minute was a correct copy of the resoliij tion , which he had no doubt it was, the •club must abide by it; and he hoped they -would fight for the cup again, when he ■would have no fears as to the result.: Mr Henry read a letter from the Wood-. Tdlle delegate; and two delegates in the' aroom said they had no recollection of the" ininute referred to. . ■ After the question had beqn folly dis•cussed in a most manly spirit, it was Proposed by Mr Gregory, seconded by Mr Gieson, That the Feilding delegates ~be authorised to yote for the confirmation of the minutes of the meeting of delegates . leld in May 10th, 1839. c ntaini lg are solution to the following eifest, viz., *Mhart Mr Haybittle's oup be played for and won two years in succession, or three years "at intervals before it becomes the property ■of any club." Also, that this meeting desires thY delegates to inform the Manawatn Rugby ' Union that the Woodville xand Feilding delegates of .1889 are of opinion that the cup was to be played, for and won during one season ; and, further, this meeting authorises, this concession in order" to promote that proper good feeling which is so desirable to cultivate . among the several clubs forming the Union.— Carried. Mr Strachan proposed, and Mr R. H. "Whisker seconded, That Mr J. E. Henry *ndMr G. H. Saywall be elected Ufe memJbers of tiie club.— -Carried. Mr Henry' returned thanks for 1 the iionor conferred upon him. " , Mr Say well also returned thanks and «aid he would always do his best for the club^ v _ . . ■•. . Mr Kirton here left the. chair, and Mr Oosling took his place while the following resolution was put :— Proposed by Mr R. H. Whisker, seconded by Mr J. E. Henry, ! That. Mr Kirton be a Vice-President of the club.— Carried. '
Mr Kirton returned thanks for the N lonor conferred upon him, and while doing so remarked on the pleasure it gave, him to be of any assistance in. furthering the' best interests of the. club. He. then resumed the chair. Mr J. E. Henry stated that 1 it was his intention to present a silver medal' to the best all round player in the second fifteen at the end of the season ; to be won un> <der the same conditions as the Donnolly trophyl: A vote of thanks to the chairman tersninated the proceedings. .
