Mr Coad's Meeting
(OMJJfUNIOATBDi>; j :..; : The chair wa* taken by b» Worship* the Mayor at the advertised time. The? audience was not promising then, but. afterward* filled up nicely. For a first meeting with, an entrance charge, Mr Coad though* it a success. It was a< thoroughly representative andience. The- ' platform was occupied by the Beys. Johes^ Murray ,. Harris and Wilks, and also the officers of the Salvation Army. I mayBay that though the Wesleyan Minister was absent, that body was well represented in the auditorium. The opening hymns were played to by Miss Bird, and sang by an improvised choir,, who dii their duty fairly well. It is needless to» i say the lecturer treated his subject in ant | attractive and masterly manner. Xhte . two great themes of religion and temperi ance as brought out in the life of Billy Bray, were graphically described and! solemnly - humourously enforced.. TheBible out of Schools, and our New Zealand; folly, in spending .£15,000,000 in seven years on intoxicating liquors*, received' special treatment at the hand&bf the lecturer. For two flohd hours tbe audiencewas regaled with a feast of wifrandhumor(that should help them to. shake off "La , Grippe ") intermixed with, the most profound truths they should never be able to forget. Mr Coad promises to visit NewZealand again in five yiars*' should. no» accident happen"." At the close Mr JL 0: Thompson pro-, posed, and the Rev.. Me Jones seconded;, a vote of thanks to> the lecturer*, which: was carried with' acclamation.. Mr Goad - then proposed & vote of thanks to. Ac Mayor for presiding at the meeting,, this, being also, well) received. Thus closed dneof the best temperance meetings held in the district..
