A Horrible Scene
Additional horror has heen added to the terrible tale by the accounts which have come to hand concerning ; ; the . v ■cowardly and murderous conduci . of the Lascars during v the ■ fearful mom -. •ents between the striking of the Huetta and her fatae plunge beneath the waves. Immediately "the danger . began they rushed in a frantic and undisciplined- mob towards the only available boat. Weak women and^ helpless ■ '" : children were • ruthlessly thrown aside as the brutal black men serambledover the thwarts to secure their owu .'safety,' Even .after the dreadful tragdey was past, and nothing remained of the battered vessel '" but the floating wreckage and' the gasping swimmers who had escaped the greedy _ whirlpcmL.... the Lascars . persevered in their selfish and heart less brutality. As fthe^ struggling; passengers came j near* the boat they' were pushed. aside and left to drown..
