Kiwitea Road Board
The ordinary monthly meeting was j ' lield on Saturday last. Present — Messrs Williamson (in the chair), Lucas, Fowles, .J. Reid, Haythorne, Shannon, Homer, and Milk. The minutes ofthe last ordinary meet-' ing were read and confirmed. Correspondence was read and dealt with in the resolutions. .■*■*' Resolved that the alteration of name on rate roll from Messrs Bartholomew to ■E. J. Riddiford for sections 154 and 157 l)e made. Also from Robert Stewart to James Meehan for the Cheltenham Hotel property. Also, from J. H. Burgess to Hare and Daneils for section 26, Block XV., Ongo. Petition presented from Otamakapua Block, asking that something be done to the Whare road to make it passable for traffic. Mr Taylor, the chairman of the Board, ■at this, stage took his seat. X A letter was here read from Messrs Levett, Perry, and others, asking the Board to lower the grade of the cutting on Perry's line.
Mr Taylor stated that the road was xeally dangerous to travel, the cutting was not a long one, and strongly advocated the. work being done. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr JTowles, That, in reply to Mr Hopkinslthe Engineer inspect the drain referred to, «nd have the work done if necessary. — Carried. . . -'-. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Powles, That the secretary write to Mr Seabury that he can fell the bush on road line on the Board's usual terms.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the thirds accruing fiom the land occupied by Messrs Beckett, Mathieson, and Dr Bennett will be spent on the Whare road if approved of by the land Board, and the secretary write for same. — Carried. ■ ' Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Fowles, That permission be given to Mr Stretton to erect a fence as asked for, provided he does it to the Engineer's approval, — Carried. . Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Fowles, That permission be given to Cornfoot Bros, to fell bush On roadline on tihe Board's usual terms, and to be paid for when the Board is in funds.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Fowles, seconded by Mr Lucas, That tenders be called for the whole of the remaining loan works in the Peilding Block, to be in by the next meeting of the Board.— Carried. Mr Richardson waited on the Board,- re road to his property pa continuation of Mackaj *^ road; He was informed that all the thirds available to 30th of last September were now being spent. There were now six months' tbirdi due, which, when available, would be spent on the road. Proposed by Mr Lucas, seconded by Mr Taylor, That the request of Messrs Gichard and Nicols be granted for the remainder of the contract, provided they proceed with the work at once, and to the satisfaction of the Engineer.— Carried. Proposed by Mr Homer, seconded by Mr -Haythorne, That the thirds accruing from sections owned by those signing petitions requesting their thirds to be spent on the Oroua Valley road be granted, subject to the approval of the Land Board, and that the secretary apply for the same. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Shannon, seconded by Mr Haythorne, That the Engineer call tenders for work on Mackay's line to be in by next meeting. — Carried. Proposed by Mr Taylor, seconded by Hit Williamson, That the Engineer lay oft and call for tenders for lowering the grade on the hill in front of MrLevett's on Perry's line, tenders to be in as soon as possible to be dealt with by Messrs Taylor «nd Havthorne, and the Engineer.—Carried. Resolved, That the Engineer inspect the Association road as far as section 80 &nd report at. the next meeting the cost of felling bush and forming a bridle track where indispensble. Lots were drawn for the members who retire from office, and the lot fell upon Messrs Fowles, Shannon, Homer, and Williamson. Tenders were opened for contract on Sinclair's line, and the tender of F. L. Behrendt was accepted. . Resolved, That notice be given by advertisement that a meeting of ratepayers be held to consider loan proposals, as follow: — At Shannon's whare, on Monday 28th April, at Livingston township, on Monday 28th April, at noon; at the old Pohangina schoolhouse, on Monday, 28th April, at noon; and at the Town Hall, Birmingham, on Saturday, 3rd May, at noon. - Accounts were passed to the amount of JJ531 175, and the Board adjourned.
