The youth Bennett, arrested on a charge of murder by shooting his uncle, out of revenge for an alleged assault on his mother, was found not guilty, on the ground of insanity. . April 21. The Postmaster-General has detained a parcel of diamonds valued at £5000. The reason assigned is that the stones were sent to a 'diamond broker in Melbourne by a defaulting insolvent in Belgium. The Belgian Consul has guaranteed government against any loss which may be incurred by their action.
