The Feilding Star. SATURDAY, APRIL 12, 1890. French Politics

■'■ . ■ ■ . .. — ♦— — ~ ■>„ By recent advices from London arrived, the full text of the sensational incident of the arrest and conviction of Louis Phillippe, Due d'Orleans, who is the eldest son of the Compte de, Paris, and grandson of Louis Phillippe, the reigning monarch in France in 1848. We will give a short summary from an impression likely to become general that it represent? a shadow of future important events. There are; two laws in France that appear to conflict: One of '86 that no heirs, of monar^hs who have reigned are allowed on French territory. The other, the military law of 'B9, that required even every expatriated Frenchman on arriving at the age q£2o, to present himself to be enrolled for enlistment under pain of severe stigmas and penalties. The Duie, on arriving at. that age, being an impulsive, high spirited yoiing_ man, without allowing his intentions to become known, presented himself for enlistment as a private soldier. The authorities immediately, took the alarm, locked him .up, and charged him .with: having broken one law, without which he could not. obey the other, and the present , result is a sentence .of two yeais, and a great aud increasing excitement whioh will probably enlist the sympathies of, the army. ,An inspired from love of his country^ and ill-ad-vised act. of, making ,a martyr of turn, are just the right, sort of mainsprings to ex- : cite all the. chiva&ousl feelings of Frehohr men ; nor are acute politicians likely to be wanting to work the oracle towards a greater result:' ,$Te will add that, by way of making a mountain biit of a trifle, #n urgent dißpussibn took place in the Chamof Deputies, and .even there over a, thii;d protested in favour of the law of exile being repealed. y ; ■.'.'/.''.,.
