Tea Meeting at Awahuri
The first anniversary tea meeting in connection with the Primitive Methodist services at Awahuri, took place on Easter Monday evening, and was a complete success in every way. Therfcea was held in the Maori meeting-house, kindly placed at the disposal of the mission by the owners. The attendance was very large including a number from Feilding, with a good mixture of both races. The object, being to provide seats for the usual services, evidently secured the services of all. The tables, which were plentifully supplied with the usual delicacies, were provisioned and presided over by Mesdames Phillips, Bennett, Wilcox and Stewart, ably assisted by* their daughters. The event of the evening came off at the after meeting, presided over by Mr J. C. Thompson, when. the Rev. Mr, . Harris was called on for his amusing, instructive and humorous lecture entitled "Mistakes." All must have felt it to be the right thing" after partaking of a sumptuous tea. Even the Maori friends, who only partially understood it, were heard to say : " kapai te korero." A repprt was read, showing thepioceedsof the effort we e between £Q and i7 with more to come in, which was considered highly satisfactory.. Mrs W. Douglas and Mrs" Bennett, assisted by Mr Bennett, gave some beautiful selections from the "Jubilee Singers "during' the evening. The usual votes of thanks, including one to the owners of the build*' ing,'proposed by Mr Phillips and seconded by Mr Bennett, brought a very enjoyable evening to a close.
