Bail was allowed, himself in iMOti and two sureties of i>loo each. . Messrs F* R. Jackson and Oo.'s sale at the residence of Mr D. McKenzie, in Duke street, yesterday was well attended. The bidding was rather brisk, especially for cattle and other stock, and fairly good' prices were realised. The master printers having formed an association, have advised the Wellington City Council that in future they will not 'tender for the Council's work, but have submitted a schedule of prices, leaving it .to that body to allot the work to whom they might. ._, iThe party consisting of Ministers and sM>ll.R.s went through by the mail train to-day en route far their trip over the Central Railway' line. The annual picnic in connection with, the Feilding State School was held'pn the Oval yesterday afternoon. The youngsters were regaled with plenty of good things, tea, &c, and races and various amusements took place, the affair altogether being very enjoyable. The horse-box on the Governor's special train took fire near Frankton, Auckland, when the train was.going at the rate of 35 miles an hour. Both horses were rather badly burnt before released. . The loose , straw in the box. had ignited, and was blazing up around the bodies of the animals. It is notified to-day over the leader that Mr Trimble will hold ah' auction sale at Feilding Chambers on Saturday next, at 1.30 p.m. The goods to be offered comprise drapery, clothing, furniture, cutlery, jewellery, groceries and numerous sundries, also a quantity of skates at per single pair. O'Leary; 17s 6d per chain, sideling, 6s 9d ; Northern Line, JVladsen, and Klink, i'Bl 13s; Waitima Valley road, Madsen and Klink, 15s ; metalling main road. Feilding Block, contracts' 1, '2, 3, and 4, delivery of metal, Is lid per yard. For the position of roadmen, W. Tappin and John Lowe were appointed. No tenders were accepted for Sinclair's Line. A coffee supper and entertainment under the auspices of the Feildiug Wesleyan Church was held in the Foresters' Hall last night, under the presidency of the Rev. Mr Cannell'. The viands, which were of excellent quality, were kindly provided by Mesdames Whiskar and Menzies. Readings, recitations, and vocal and instrumental musical selections were given. The, ladies and gentlemen who took part in the entertainment being Rev. Mr Cannell and family,- Miss N. Fraser, Messrs Eade, Dixon and Cook. The last named gave a capital exhibition of Indian club exercise to music, which effort was highly, appreciated by the audience. At a meeting of the committee of the j Feilding Jockey Club on Tuesday last, a plan of the proposed new course was submitted and rejected, as the land is, acco:Tlirig to -the opinion of the members, unsurinble, being liable to floods. Wanganui Jockey Club with reference to a horse nominated for the Winter Oats under three years old running for distances over six furlongs; The matter was' referred to the Metropolitan Club.
