' r The • promoters of the entertainment yrmch was held last night in the Assem- ; ,'bly Rooms, had every reason to Be satis- . fied with the splendid., patronage they received from the public. The show began with Mrs Jarley's Waxworks* Mies-Jar-ley (Mr Cornish) did her work welL .She was ably assisted by the Black Boy (Mr ■ ; Gregory) - r alsothetOld Man (Mr Reading), and the fun was made funnier fey the r grinning delightedly "to ice the s^ort" they made. Mr bQniaier- , . ville with the English concertina playect with his usual skill -and, : was encored. Miss Betlve rendered '^Caller Herrin" veryjiicely r .and was followed bj Mr Keen who sang, in character, " Killaloe r " andl ■ inrxesppnse to an erithttaiaatic encoretgave "O'Grady the Tailor," Mra Macarthur then sang- "EBtiidiantiiia r " in which she was accompanied by Mrs Irice's-Jonea^ with great taste and expression* The in- ' strumental quartette by Messrs Daw r Pope, and B. F. and E, HaybittW went very well. Miss Fraser followed with v Eillarney r ". which she sang sweetly and with, feeling. Mr J. Quackenboes told the) audience that " I Weeps and I Wander^^ ' and being, imperatively encored he wandered back and sang Temptation'"' splendidly- The chorus at the back- ofthe stage ;was very effective. After theusual interval the cujctain rose rtc^.The 1 - Steeplechane," in. which Mr BesfiOftplayedi .". "■Mr Tittams," and h* played weiL Hilt get up was good, being an exact imUfeflioa ' ' of the great J- L. Tooie, the famous English comedian- for whom the character was created. Mr, Benson never missed^ his ; " points/a rid, the roars of la-iighter and! applaiise with which he was fxequently greeted testified how. well the- audience , appreciated the fun. Mr Gregory aa- : Alderman Slowcoach also scored, a. success, Mr Sonthey Fowler, as Br Clipper,, made the most of h» part, and the- same ■ i may he said of Buzzard, Mr Reading. Cummins, Mr Corniabr was really excel-' lent, and his "bis " wa» always gqoicl^ • r Boots, Mr ,K r Halcombe, was not long oh ..
