' y THE BOROUGH COUNCIL,
b TO THE K»ITOR OF TBE STAH. ; Sic,— There is a good deal of talking f about the doings of the Borough Council, i and many of us would not have voted as ■ we did if we had known that .one CounL cillor was going to rule the loir What is i His Worship the Mayor about that he E allows such carrying on, and are the i other- Councillors frightened ? The town I is to be made a stink pot for the benefit of flaxrnills, because the owners have; more i friends in the Council ' than the people i who are sickened by them* There- is no Ranger, and so a well-tried and honest r Poundkeeper has received notice, the '. paltry excuse being that without a Banger a Poundkeeper is not wanted. . Suppose anyone else takes things to be pounded, is there to be no one in charge ?- Now, sir, '", does any person sitting in the Council . think the ratepayers don't understand that the object is revenge for. political action, and not to study, the interests of ■'; the town. In other quarter* money can ; be lavished — thirty-five shillings instead t of 2s 6d for burying a dead horse. • Time was when a nice little family party could • do as they like, but times are altered, and there are people now mjFeilding that can see, .and speak too, pretty plainly without the fear of somebody's thumb over them. It is all; very fine to snub a nuisance complaint, -and order, that no other notice bo taken of an abominable stench, but that the name of the first person objecting Bhall be made public (so that he may be paid out, you know !), but there's many a ratepayer that won't stand that sort of thing quietly, and so the noble Council will find. I shall not give my name now, because it would be used to draw a red herring across the scent;, but when I do they will find it accompanied by a large number of others, each of whom can sign A Ratepayer.
