The Labour Strike in England

The strike of 200,000 colliers is causing a great deai of excitement throughout the country, and the short production from the Lancashire, Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Nottingham, "Leicestershire, Warwick, and North: Wales mi acs, it is expected, will result in the closing of the northern blast furnaces and many of the mills. Twenty -thousand-engineers at Newcastle and Stoektoti-oa-Teea have gone out on stnk«, demanding a cessation of work at midday on Saturday. Several of the Lancashire and' Stafford colliery owners are willing to agree to the demands of the men. - <•- March 17. fThe Times, m referring to the.present , strikes, alleges that the present struggle between capital and labour is likely to oe the greatest the world has ever seen. The owners of the colbehes in the Bristol district and in some parts of Warwickshire, Nottinghamshire, Lancashire and Yorkshire have conceded the demands' of tke men, but this only affects about 30,000 of those on strike. The number of colliers on strike has : reached 250,000. The Government declined to nominate Mr Burns as a delegate to the Berlin Conference. - . The Liverpool dock owners are employing men who were locked out by the ■ Metropolitan (Jas Company in spite of the stringent picketing of strikers.
