SERIOUS LOSS OF LIFE By Eleptric Telegraph— Copyright. (PUB PBBBS ASSOCIATION.) _ Sydney, March 12 ■ Owing to floods the railway lines are blocked in various directions, Kempsey and South Town, situated on the Macleay Biver, are under water, the latter to a depth of 12 feet. Boats and river steamers have been engaged rescuing residents, and fuDy 800 persons took refuge on a dredge in the town Maeleay All townships along the banks of the Richmond River are flooded, and Grafton is inundated. The water is still rising* but as yet no fatalities are reported. Considerable loss of life has been caused by the floods near Narabri Mrs Carr and three children were drowned -and their house washed away. At Taree a farmer named McGallivray was drowned, and at Casino, Reid and another (unknown), and also Mr Dunstan, at Windsor, lost their lives. It is feared that many people have perished in the Northern districts The telegraph lines .are still interrupted, but the weather shows signs of breaking.
