A young man named Julius Peterson; a seaman on the brigantine Camille,. has been drowned at Heletisyille.* He was pulling in a boat when an par broke and he was thrown into the water and lost. The Waiteinata sawmill on the bar* bour reclamation was burned yesterday, the building being almost completely gutted, whilst 1 most of the machinery was destroyed. The loss is difficult''to'--estimate, but it will probably be between £2000, and £3000. The origin of the fire is unknown. "'.. /, New Plymouth, March 10, The bush fires are now moderating, but the damage is great. It is estimated that in the Egmont and Moa distucfcs nearly half the pasture has been burnt up, which will reduce the output of butter by more than one half. Fisher and Barrett, the young men who shot Henry Ford in the leg in Manchester Street recently, were brought up at the R.M. Court and fined 40s and costs 31s. Ford intends to prosecute privately. • Wellington, This Day. At the Magistrate's Court to-day Mr Robinson intimated the prosecution had established a case against Henry Burton for allowing gambling on his premises, and in order to give defendant time to call witnesses an adjournment was made. Mr A. B. Foster, assistant clerk of R.M. Court, was this morning presented with two purses of sovereigns on behalf of the J.P.s and legal profession respectively.
