I PKK UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION. ! GIBBORNE, This Day. A severe and prolonged shock of earthquake was felt here at 5.30 last evening. Gbeymouth, Marsh 7 Owing to difficulties between the Ma., or (Mr Mitchell) and the town Clerk (Mr J. \Vhull), and in consequence of which the < 'K»-k laid an information for assault against the Mayor, a special meeting of the Council to-niglit passed a resolution to the effect that the Clerk was not guilty of insubordination aud did not deserve suspension. The Mayor resigned in order to appeal to the ratepayers. Nelson, March 6. At the Supreme Court to-day, Henry J. COBB was found guilty of manslaughter and sentenced to' two years' hard labour. Hop-picking is in full swing, and the crop generally appears! better than might be expected, owing to the continued dry weather. No rain has fallen this year, and the country is dreadfully parched, the feeding of stock being a serious difficulty.
