Horticultural Show

'• Th* Autumn show of th* Finding Hor ticultural Sociaty was, as w« said it woull be, even superior than any of its predecessors. The pot plants and cut flower* were in great variety and remarkable beauty. In this connection the. bridal bouquet* exhibited by th* Misses McKerizie, and the table decorations by Mrs - Crammond and Mrs Beattio were etquie- -.-." ite, especially tbe latter, which although it only succeeded in gaining second prize, was in our opinion at laast, deserving of a a better fate. The same may be said of Mrs Saxon's floral device, » fan, whioh . was very pretty and tasteful. Mr Saml; Knight showed "a faded (sun) flower" of 20 iiiches in diameter, which #as much admired. The collections of apples w*r* ▼•rj good, and altogether very creditable to the growers. Th* vegetables were all good of their several kinds, and Mr J. Corkery was a llarge priz* taker, and Mr *fi Weightman was also a considerable prizetak*r. It is observable that the produce class is always badly competed for. Th* prizes ar* liberal enough yet they do not appear to prove tempting enough to th* ham and bacon cur*rs. The judges were M*s*rs W. D. Nicholas and H. Worsfold, with Mr F. Y. Lethbridge jtx, referee. They performed th*ir onerous duties with th* utmost care, and their awards were satisfactory. Of cours* th*re were, a few complaints, but that may always be expected. Thar* were 45 exhibitors altogather, and the following is th* list of prize* and the prize . winners :— Class 4 ' Pot Plants. General satisfaction seemed to be expressed with the exhibits, especially, the apples, whilethe progress made by the society was favorably commented upon. The music by the Feilding Brass Band was very attractive, and several of the pieces rendered were much admired. The afiair was concluded by Mr Fowler, as salesman, disposing of the "fruit, flowers, and vegetables" by "Dutch auction, in his most felicitous style. It goes without: saying that the financial reSWts were most satisfactory. ■ -j
