Charitable Aid Board

The quarterly meeting of the Charitable Aid Board was held yesterday. Present — Messrs Arkwright (in the chair), Lifliton, Feat, Bemington, Parsons, Lethbridge, Smith, Adams, McKenzie, Edwards, Mon'rad, and Fleming. The minutes of the. previous meeting were .read and confirmed. The Chairman (Mr Arkwrignt) stated he had received a letter from Mr Bamber resigning hiß position as secretary both to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Boards. On the motion of Mr Edwards, the resignation was accepted. Several letters from the different local bodies were then read. The Town Clerk of Palmerston North wrote stating that no alteration had been made to the Charitable account since December 11th, 1889, as there were no funds to dispense, and would be none till the amount asked of the board had been forwarded. The ManChester Boad Board applied for .£lO. The Chairman (Mr Arkwright) read a letter from Dr Monckton with reference' to the notice of motion standing in hiß name, and regretted his unavoidable abeence, and asking that some member would ruoye it in his stead, Mr Arkwright said he was very sorry Dr Monckton was not present to move the .motion, but he had great pleasure in doing it for him. He would, therefore, move,. That it is desirable to separate old and chronic cases from the ordinary hospital patients, and that a home be provided outside of the town and out of the reach of the liquor traffic for the patients. —Mr Bemington moved as an amendment, That all the words used after word "patients" be left out, and. a committee appointed to consider the matter and to report at the next meeting as to the best way of carrying . out the resolution" be added. — Mr- Parsons seconded the amendment, which was put and carried.—lt was proposed, That the Chair- r man, Messrs Peat, Liffiton, Bemington, Edwards, Parsons and Dr Monckton be appointed a committee. Mr Af C. Jtitchie was appointed secretary, and Miss Hope, of Wellington, matron o£ the hospjtal.>The Board then, adjourned.
