Dunkdin February 19. A glove contest, said to be for .£2OO, took place this eyening between J. Pettingell, of Wellington, and George Allen, of San Francisco. Martin Fisher acted as referee. There was some hard fighting for four rounds, and in the fifth the referee awarded the match to Pettengell on the ground that Allen struck him when he was down. There is some talk of a match with bare knuckles between the pair.
