Volunteer Items
At a meeting of Volunteer Officers lield in. Nelson last Saturday: — A letter was read from Lieut-Colonel Butts of Wellington, stating that it tad been decided to hold a camp at -Island Bay at Easter, and inviting the -Nelson Volunteers. After some disvussion, in which the opinion was generally expressed that the Government should give some assistance in the matter, the following resolution "was proposed by Captain Leggatt and seconded by Captain Simpson : — That the invitation of Col. Butts be accepted provided satisfactory arrangements «an be made by the Government to find rations and transport, as the volunteers of the district are not in a position to incur the expense themselves.—Carried unanimously. — Mail. A parade of the Maiicbesterßifl.es Was ordered for last night, but owing to the attendance being small, Lieut. Kirton adjourned it until the 21st instead. No fines were inflicted becauet there was evidently some misunderstanding on the question of the date.
