• (I'EK UNITED PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Auckland, February 13. A settler named William Hall was felling a tree on his property at Kaeo, in the Whangaroa district yesterday, and in running to take his child out of the way he fell and broke his neck. The child escaped. A matter of interest to legal gentlemen was argued at the Supreme Court this morning. Mr T. Cotter was called to produce a deed in evidence. He declined to do so, because the costs of preparing it had not yet been defrayed. Mr Tole argued that the Court could order the witness to produce the deed. Ultimately Mr Justice Conolly said that the deed need not be produced until the lien of Mr Cotter had been paid. A Whangarei syndicate has purchased the Tamautihmau block of 1200 acres of land, adjoining Puhipuhi and half a mile from prospectors' silver lodes. It is the only freehold block in the district; all the rest is Natiye land that has not yet gone through the court. . The block lies right along the northern boundary of Puhipuhi, and the reefs yet found tend towards it. This land is now under offer to Melbourne capitalists. 'At a special meeting of the Bank of New Zealand there waß a large attendance of shareholders. The resolution passed on the 9th of January, removing < the Head Office of the Bank to London, ! was confirmed unanimously. Hamilton, February 11. A number of settler's met the Hon. Mr Bryce this afternoon, on his arrival at Gwynne's Hotel. It was arranged that addresses should be given at the following places and dates : — Hamilton, Saturday, 15th instant; Te A wamntu, 17th instant Whatawhata, 20th instant ; Baglan, 22nd instant; Ngaruawhia, 24th instant; and at Ohaupo on Thursday, 27th instant.
