The Advance In the Price of Wool
Since dip day a " boom," to use an American slang expression, has set in and prices have advanced in some <cases 30 per cent. For instance deep hogs are now freely taken by ■consumers at 14|-d per lb., against lid Ou the Ist of -eptember. This is by a demand for luatre goods alpacas, mohairs, briilantines, and a lot of other names. It looks hke old times again, and if this fashion should continue, the question will be asked. How much long lustre wool does Great Britain produce ? To our farmers this is a serious question, and one weli deserving their Attention, for it ie a well known fact that during the last ten years very large flocks have been turned from Long wools into half-breds by crossing the Leicester, Lincoln, and Cotswold ewes with Hampshire, Stropshire, and other Down tups. To give our readers an idea of the advance in these lustre wools and mohairs we annex the following : — To-day's price Same time last year. Lincoln "hogs, 14£ d. lOJd. 10£ d. Alpaca 26£ d 12£ d.
