New Plymouth. February 3. Large bush fires are raging for c distance of nearly forty miles througl the bush, the district lying between New Plymouth and Te :;oti. New Plymouth is enveloped in smoke, and a heavy south-westerly gale is blow* ing. .Several settlers are hurut out uear tbe Junction road, and the town of Inglewood is in danger. The Waiongona railway bridge caught fire but the railway employes succeded in extinguishing the flames The settlers have suffered a heavy >oss in grass seed and are experiencing an anxious time, and if the gale does uot abate soon the damage by fire will be most serious.
