The Feilding Star. TUESDAY, JANUARY 28, 1890

To ahow how far " Protection" may be pushed by the enthusiastic admirers of that policy, we quote the following remarkable paragraph from the New Zealand Herald :— " We are threatened now with danger by the flax plant being introduced into foreign countries, through the sale of seed not being prohibited. Nothing can stop smuggled expectations, but samples of seed by postr or packages by ships should be absolutely prevented as far as possible, if we are alive to the danger of letting foreigners get hold of this valuable seed, and grow the flax themselves." Why not go further and ask for the prohibition of the export of New Zealand wheat to England.' It would be just as sensible.
