Sydney, January 16In theMacleay district miles of country are under water, and at Glen Innes the railway bridge has been washed away, causing traffic to be suspended. Arrived— Lubeck, from Samoa. Affairs are quiet, but a good deal' of ill feeling is manifested against Colonel Ooetlogan, the British •• vice-consul. ' A public meeting has been held, tn which it was resolved to petition Sir J. Th-.irston, the High Commissioner, 'to remove him. It is reported that Coetlogan is to be promoted to the position of Consul in New Caledonia. There are great signs of discontent in Tonga, and the small price given for copra, through no fault of the Government, tends largely to increase the pro vailing .dissatisfaction. The natives are quite unable to pay taxes and are seeking various means of relief.
