The Outbreak of Influenza
By ■ Electric Telegraph.— Copyright. (pee united press association.) London, January 4. , The influenza, which is attacking residents in England, is assuming the Russian*, type. Two hundred of the General .Post office employes are down with the disease, and somo of the cases are very bad. The influenza is becoming 'more prevalentj^ud some of the cases are of a mil^^useian type. Tbefe is a great run 'on the hospitals, doctors and druggists. The postmen, policemen, the training schools and the barracks have all been attacked by the influenza, which is now. spreading to several of the country towns. The mortality in Paris, the French provinces, Vienna and Madrid has been heavy. Out of 1200 women employed in a- French tobacco factory only 50 have been able to continue work. _ The Empress Augusta, Dr Dollihger of Bavaria, and Mr Henry Chaplin, Minister of Agriculture, have been attacked by influenza. January 6. It is reported that there are 50,000 cases of influenza in Birmingham. A few deaths are recorded in London from the epidemic, but in New York the death-rate is the highest known.
