RANGITIKEI NEW YEAR MEETING

FIRST DAY. ' What is annually looked forward to by the sporting public as one of the best race meetings held on this coast was somewhat marred by the heayy downpour' of rain which fell incessantly on the night preceding and on the morning of New Year's day. The going on the course was very heavy, which no doubt accounted for the small fields that competed for some of the events. Naturally enough the attendance was oniy moderate, and only £2829 passed through the totalisator, which was worked by Messrs Hill and Poole. Oddfellow and Maribyrong being scratched for the Handicap Hurdles, Gladius had a walk over, and so the Club substituted an extra half-mile hack race.
