SOMNUS, (TE KAHURANGI) TENDING there is a stron? feeling to J- retain the services of SOMNU3 in this District, and wishing to use him ourselves to a greater extent than before, the Proprietors have arranged to send the son of "The Painter" to Hawkei Bay, where he .will serve at a fee of Seven Guineas for Thoroujjnbreds, and Fire Guineas foe Cross breds. The Celebrated Thorough bred Champion Prize winner, SOMNUS (sire of Dudu, Foxton, Cyclone, Minnie, Waiter, and a host of other most promising youngsters, some of which will, no doubt in the coming racing season afford additional proof of the value of this first class sire) will therefore stand at the Proprietors' stud stables, Feildrae, this season, commencing Monday,, the ,2nd September. We have stack to SOMNUS, because on his size, breeding, performances, and beautiful symmetry, we believed he was destined to become a Great Horse ; and we have no doubt whatever now, that Jike bis illustrious sire " Traducer," and - the great "Musket/" Somnus inherits that great power possessed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to his progeny, that we mean 1 to stick to him still, notwithstanding the tempting overtures that have been made for him, not m New Zealand (because he <vas bred here), but from America, where his old stable companion and near relation, " Sir Modred," has attained such a high reputation ' as a Sire, and fromother parts of the world where the fame •of Somnus has reached. We did intend to., charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round, this season: but from, representations made. by some of our, friends that they were unable to pay so much for Hack mares, we have de« cided to reduce the fee on the following scale viz':— " Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas. Class C, Seven Guineas. A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten shillings. Paddocking (if required) 2s ier week. Choice mares can be fed as per agreement Guarantees as per agreement. Allowancemade for two or more mares the prop rty of one owner. *i ares left at the Proprietors' Horned stead, Foxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. - To insure service, early application should be made. The paddocking -accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered paddocks. Owners sending mares m foal can relj upon the greatest possible care bemg taken at foaling time and proper time of service.
