A lady boarder at a seaside hotel quarrels with her nurse, aud stabs her with a kuive. • The " lady" is ■arrested ; -her wealthy husband tries to induce the nurse to say that the etabbiug was accidental. Then the New, York papers take up the case, and the great Hamilton scandal is developed. The, husband, Ray Hamilton, is a rich. New Yorker; the grandson of Alexandra Hamilton, who was Secretary of State under Washington ; a member of the Union League and other leading clubs ; a prominent Republican politician ; an «x- member of the Legislature and a well-known man about- town, aged thirty- two years, handsome and distinguished. The reporters discover for him that .his wife has another iusband ; that his child was bought irom a baby farm for £2 — the woman iiaviug bought 4 children before s'hd found- otoe that would suit — and in tiri'ef, that he has been -the dupe and ■victim of, blackmailers and conspirators. Now,, convinced of -his folly, he 38 givirigVe,vidence against the woman he married, and his friends are posing iiim as a martyr.
