The Gram Trade
A. gentleman experienced in the grain trade, and who recently made a tour of the neighboring colonies, iuforms the Southland News that there is every reason to believe that during December, January, aud February a good demand tor New Zealand ~oat» will exisG in Sydney. There are no stocks held there at present, .'and so far there has been an unprecedented run on maize.. ,The ciup is almostdone, and very inferior quality is now corning forward.. Hot weather wilt be on during the pj-esent mouth, anil the consuuiption-vrall then greatly increase. For lack of green feed Sydney alone consumes sume one thousand Hacks a - week. Some better
sj'stem than that which now exists should be arranged for shipping. One week the market is glutted, everyone -rushing in together, and the fallowing ,week the market is bare. Most unreliable reports are sent across weekly from New Zealand, and a lot of harm results. The new maize crop will not be in before March, and there should be a good market for ail the oats in New Zealand if not rushed in together. Prices in December should improve, and hold throughout the above months
