Feilding Athletic Sports

The fourteenth annual meeting of the above will be held in the Oval on Thursday the 26th of December. The Feilding Boxing Day Sports -have a reputation second to none hi the colony for the liberality of their prizes and the excellence of their management. Athletes from everypart of the 'colony have- competed, at them, and whether victors or vanquished have invariably left -satisfied that they had either won or been,! defeated on their merits; Several "alterations have ,been" made in the events,- and we think they will be found to be improvements. The . boys' race, which formerly was a bit of a farce from , the difficulty of fixing the actual ages of the competitors, has been abolished, and .instead a boys' race for ladss attending State Schools . substituted. There can be no mistakes made then. The credit of this improvement is due to Mr H. Worsfold, the chairman of the State School committee, at whose suggestion it was made. The one hundred yards race has heen struck out arid " 120 yards Sheffield Race" put in its stead. Twenty pounds is coyered . by the event and therefore it should prove popular and attract a large field of entries. The only other alteration worthy of note is handicapping the vaulting with the pole. This will make this prize no longer a foregone conclusion. Taking it as a whole the programme is an attractive one, and equal in every way to any of its predecessors.
