The bank of New Zealand have made a further discovery of scrip to ,the extent of £10,000, which considerably reduces the defalcations of the teller Thomas. Arnyed — The German warship Alexandria. The village of Xiagulleman -was burned in retaliation for the murder of two Germans. Melbourne, November 2. Thomas, the defaulting teller of. the Batik of New Zealand, who was arrested yesterday, has informed the detectives where they will find mining scrip repreenting £15,000. Tn the Legislative Council the Minister of Lands has made an explanation with regard to the remarks as to the infringement of Mr Pond's butter-box patent. He says that the letters patent of Mr Pond applies to boxes, while, in the instance under notice the enamel was only used in casks, Brisbane, Nov. 3. Hick, the convict, who escaped, and in the attempt to' capture him shot Constable Wovxlle, and a lad now dead, ; pursued by the police, and as he reiu-^ed to surrender was shot dead at Normaaton.
