I . SOMNUS, j (TE KAHUfiANGI) TTIINDINGr there is a strong tcelirig to . -I- retain the services of SOMNUS in tins District, and wishing to use him nurselves to a greater extent than before, the Proprietors have arranged to send the son- of "The Painter" to flawkes Bay, where he will serve at a fee of Seven Guineas for Thoroughbreds, and Five Guineas for Cross breds. --. The Celebrated Thoroughbred Champion Prize winner, ' SOMNUS (sire of Dudu, Foxton, Cyclone, Minnie, Waiter, and a host of other most promising youngsters, some of which will, no doubt in the coming racing season afford additional proof of the value of this first class sire) will therefore stand at the Proprietors' stud stables, Feilding, this season, commencing Monday, the 2nd September. We have stuck to SOMNUS, because on his size, breeding, performances, and beautiful symmetry, we believed he was destine.! to become a Great Horse ; and we have no doubt whatever now, that like bis illustrious sire " Trad ucer," and the great " Musket,'' Somnus inherits" that great power possessed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to iris progeny, that we mean to stick to him still, notwithstanding the temnting overtures that have been made for him, noi in .New Zealand (becuii.se he »viis bred here), but from America, where his old stalile companion and near relation, " Sir MoJred," has attained such jii high reputation as a Sire, and from other parts of the world where the fame of Somnus has reached. . , We. did intend to charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of our friends that they were unable to pay so much for Hack mares, we have de* cided to reduce the fee on the following 'scale viz : — Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas. Class C-, Seven Guineas A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten shillings.. Paddocking (if required)" 2s j;er week. Ch' ice mares can be fed as per agreemeut Guarantees as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more mares the prop rty of one owner. Mares left at the Proprietors' Home stead, Poxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should be made. The paddocking. accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet aud dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered pad docks. Owners sending mares in foal can relj upon the greatest possible care beiug- taken at foaling time and proper time of service. ,.
