Feilding School Committee
A meeting of the committee of the Peilding State School was held on Tuesday evening last, the following members being present: — Messrs Worsfold (chairman), Reading (secretary), Gould, Morey, Curtis, and Watts. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The head master wrote enclosing letters from Patrick Roache and John Walton (applying for positions as pupil teacher and cadet respectively) and stating their qualifications. The head master's report was read, giving the number of scholars for the week ending 11th October, as 307, and the average 232, showing an increase in the average attendance compared with the corresponding period last year, of 30 The report concluded by a statement that very satisfactory work was now being done in all parts of the school. It was resolved, That the committee is of opinion that they are justified in applying for a pupil teacher, and that application be accordingly made forthwith. One of the rooms was to be examined with reference to defective ventilation, and a report cent to the Board, and some additions to infants gallery, and repairs to desks were ordered to be done. The matter of providing shelter sheds for the use of the scholars was discussed, and it was decided to obtain plans and estimates by next meeting, when the question of ways and means will be considered. It was thought desirable that some kind of entertainment be given in which the scholars should take a prominent part, and was agreed that the chairman consult with the head master as to the practicability of the scheme. Accounts amounting to 11s were passed for payment and the meeting adjourned.
