SOMNUS, (TE KAJIUEANGI) EINDING there is a strong 'feeling to • relain the serrices of SOMNUS in this District, and wishing to use him ourselves to a greater eitent than before, the Proprietors have arranged to send the son of "The Painter" to H;iv\kes Bay, where he will serve at a fee of Seren Guineas for Thoroughbreds, and Jive Guineas fot' Crossbreds. The Celebrated Thoroughbred Chara~ pion Prize winner, SOMNUS (siie of Dudu, Poxton, Cjclone, Minnie, Waiter, and a host of other raot.t promising youngsters, some of which will, no rioubt in the coming racing season afford additional proof of the value of this first class sire) will therefore stand at the ,I'roprietors' stud stables, Peildins, this season, commencing Monday, the 2nd September. We have stuck to SOMNUS, because on his size, breeding, performances, and beautiful symmetry, we believed he was destined to become a Great Horse ; and we have no doubt' whatever now, that like his illustrious sire " Traducer," and the great " Musket,'' Somnus inherits that ' great power possessed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to his progeny, that we mean to stick to him still, notwithstanding, the tempting overtures that have been made for him, noi in New Zealand (because he »vas bred here), but from America, where his old ' Stable, companion and near relation, 1 " Sir -MoJred, 1 "- has 'attained such a* high reputation as a' Sire.-- and from other paTts of the world where the fame of Sdninus has l^eached. . We did sintend to charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of oar friends that they were unable to pay so much .for Hack: mares, we have.;de* cided to reduce the fee on the following scale viz : — ■Ist' Glass Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas, Class C., Seven Guineas. A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten shillings. Paddocking (if required) 2s j.er week. Choice mares can be fed as per agreement Guarantees. as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more.mares the prop rty of one owner. Mares left at the Proprietors' Home stead, Poxton, will be forwarded to Peilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should! be made. The padriocking accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered paddocks. Owners sending niares in foal can rely upon the greatest possible care being taken at foaling time and proper time of service.
