Wool is irregular, owing to the fact that the selection now being offered is of poorer quality than the earlier lots. There is not likely to be any furthei change until the close of the auctions. Melbourne, October 10 The first series of wool sales began today. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company's catalogue comprised 4470 bales, of which 4387 bales were sold. There was a large attendauce of buyers from England, Europe, and America, and competition was animated. Top prices were— Greasy merino, Is £d ; greasy merino pieces, lOjd ; greasy crossbreds, lid; greasy lambs, lljd; scoured super merino, Is 9d ; scoured merino pieces, la G^d.
