NO INSUEANCE ON SHIP.
(PEE UNITED PEESS ASSOCIATION) Wellington, October 6. The barque William McLarren, from Newcastle, with a cargo of coal, was wrecked at the heads on Saturday evening. The vessel left Newcastle on the 28th September, in charge of Captain Salmon, who is also owner, and arrived off the Heads yesterday morning. Captain Salmon, who holds a certificate of exemption from pilotage, at once commenced to beat in the harbor against a fresh noithwest wind. The narrows were successfully navigated, but as the vessel was heading for Worser's Bay, about 4.30 p.m., those on board felt a shock as if slightly grazing on a rock. The shock was so slight that it was not sufficient to stop the way of the vessel, and Captain Salmon stood on, expecting to keep what little water the vessel was making, down with the pumps. About 5 o'clock, however, it was found that the vessel was gradually settling down, and a few minutes later the crew took to the boats, and the William McLarren foundered almost abreast of the Pilot Station. The William McLarren is a wooden barque about 11 years old, and is 536 tons register. She is owned by Captain Kalmon, and valued at £2500, Her cargo of 765 tons of coal is also owned by Captain Salmon, and there is not a single penny insurance on the hull or cargo.
