Wellington Supreme Court

Wellington, October 7. The criminal sittings of the Supreme Court opened this morning before the Chief Justice. The Chief Justice remarked at some length on the perjury charges against Detective Benjamin, arising out of the Chemis case, and pointed out that the only material evidence that could be preferred against accused was that of the convict Chemis, who was undergoing imprisonment for life, and his Honor held he was not a competeut witness. The same remarks would apply to the evidence of Mrs Chenria Grand jury found no bill in the Benjamin perjury case.
