SOMNUS, (TE ZADURANGT) FINDING there is a strong reeling to retain the services of SOMNUS in tins District, and wishing to use him ourselves to a greater extent than before, the Proprietors have arranged to send the son of " The- Painter" to H.-iwkes Bay, where he will serve at a fee of Seven Guineas for Thoroughbreds, and Five Guineas fo." Crossbreds. The Celebrated Thoroughbred Champion Prize winner,. SOMNUS (sire of Dudu, Foxton, Cyclone, Minnie, Waiter, and a host of other most promising youngsters, some of which will, no doubt in the coming racing season afford additional proof of the value of this first class sire) will therefore stand at the Proprietors' stud stables, Feildmg, this I season, commencing Monday, the 2nd I September. { We have stuck to SOMNUS, because | on his size, breeding, performances, and beautiful symmetry, we beliered he was destined to become a Great Horse ; and we have no doubt whatever now, that like his illustrious sire " Tradueer," and the great " Musket,'' Somnus inherits that great power possessed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to his progeny, that we mean to slick t<> him still, notwithstanding the temoting overtures that have been made for him, no) in New .Zealand (because he was bred here), but from America, where his old stable companion and near relation, " Sir MoJred," has attained such a high reputation, as a Sire, and from other parts of the world where the fame of Somnus has reached. We did intend to charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of our friends that they were unable to pay so much for Hack mares, we have de* cided to reduce the fee on the following scale viz : — Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas. Class C., Seven Guineas A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten.shillings. Paddocking (if required) 2s ] er week. Ch- ice mares can be fed as per agreement Guarantees as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more mares the prop rty of one owner. \i ares left at the Proprietors' Home stead, Foxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should be made. The paddocking accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered pad docks. Owners sending mares in foal can rely upon the greatest possible care being taken at foaling time and proper time of service.
