Libel Action

IPEH UNITIjf) PSEB3 ASSOCIATION.! 2S±pier, October 1. The Supreme^ to-day was occupied with hearing the libel action against the proprietors of the Waipawa Mail, brought by Dr von Mirbach. Some time ago the doctor was the defendant in the Resident Magistrate's Court in a claim for wages, which he won. A letter appeared in the Mail com menting on the case, calling the doctor Shylock and other abusive terms. The chief assertion on which the action was based, however, was that Dr Mirbach was not entitled to style himself a doctor of medicine. He proved that he held the degrees of doctor of medicine, eurgory, and midwifery, and a special jury gave him a verdict for £250. The Chief Justice certified for costs in the medium scale.
