We have stuck to SOMNUS, because on his size, breeding, performances, and beautiful symmetry, we believed he was destineii to become a Great Horse; and we have no doubt whatever now, that like bis illustrious sire " Traducpr." nnd the great "Musket, 1 ' Somnus inherits that groat power possessed by so few sires, of transmitting his excellent qualities to his progeny, that we mean to stick to him still, notwithstanding the tempting overtures that have been made for him, nor in New Zealand (because he was bred here), but from America, where his old stable companion and near relation, " Sir MoJred," has attained such a high reputation as a Sire, ami from other parts of the world where the fame of Somnus has reached. i We did in i end to charge a fee of Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of our friends that they were unable to pay so much for Hack mares, we have de« cided to reduce the fee on the following scale viz : — Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten Guineas, Class C., Seven G-uine-is A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten shillings. Paddocking (if required) 2s ver week. Ch< ice mares can be fed as per agreement Guarantees as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more mares the prop rtv of one owner. Ai ares left at the Proprietors' Homo siead, Foxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should be made. The pnddocking accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered paddocks.
