SOMNUS, . (TE KAHURANGI) . j LjIINDING there is a strong teeling to L ! -1? retain tbe services of SOMNUS t | in this District, and wishing to use him ' ourselves to a greater extent than before, the Proprietors have arranged to send > the son of " The Painter" to Hawkes i Bay, where he will serve at a fee of s Seven Guineas for Thoroughbreds, and Five Guineas foi* Crossbreds. The Celebrated Thoroughbred Chnin~ ■ pion Prize winner, SOMNUS (sire of Dudu, Foxton, Cyclone, Minnie, Waiter, and a host of other most promising > youngsters, some of which will, no doubt in the coming racing season afford additional proof of the value of tins first claj*s sire) will therefore stand at the Proprietors' stud stables, Feildmg, this season, commencing Monday, the 2nd September. ' We have stuck to SOMNUS, because on his size, breeding, performances, and t beautiful symmetry., we beliered he was destined to become a Great Horse ; and f we have no doubt whatever now, that j like his illustrious sire " Trad ucer," and the great " Musket, 1 ' Somnus inherits that great power possessed by so few ' sires, of transmitting his excellent quali- ' ties to his progeny, that we mean to stick to him still, notwithstanding the - tempting overtures that have been made fpr him, not in New Zealand (because he tyas bred here), but from America, where j his old stable companion aud near re- . lation, " Sir MoJred," has attained such . a high reputation as a Sire, and from other parts of the world where the fame of Somnus has readied. We did intend to charge a fee of I Ten Guineas all round this season, but from representations made by some of our friends that they were unable to pay [ so much for Hack mares, we have de« t cided to reduce the fee on the following [ scale viz : — Ist Class Thoroughbreds, Ten GuineasClass C., Seven Guineas. A limited number of good Hack mares Five Pounds ten shillings. Paddocking (if required) 2s jer week. Ch- ice mares can be fed as per agreement Guarantees as per agreement. Allowance made for two or more mares the prop rty of one owner. Ai ares left at the Proprietors' Homestead. Foxton, will be forwarded to Feilding free of cost. To insure service, early application should be made. The paddocking accommodation is specially provided for breeding purposes the wet and dry mares being kept separate in well watered and sheltered pad docks.
