HAWKESBURY SPRING MEETING.
Sydney, September 1 2. The Hawkesbury Racing Club's Spring meeting commenced to-day. The weather was glorious. Hurdle Race, 2 miles. — Drilldool, 1 ; Willoughby, 2 ; Albert, 3. Hawkesbury Guineas, 1 mile. — Merriment, 1 ; Rudolph, 2 ; Sydney, 3. Four horses started. Merriment jumped away with the lead, which he maintained half the distance, when Rudolph closed up and raced the leader to the straight. Fairly in the home stretch Rudolph looked ail over the winner, but within the distance Merriment came again, and catching Rudolph at every stride won a grand race by a length. Time, lmin. 43sec. County Purse, of 250 soys. — Bernado, 1 ; Touchstone, 2 ; Rosicrucian, 3. September Handicap, of 100 soys. — Daniel, 1 ; Advice, 2 ; Blucher, 3. Sydney, Sepfemher 10 Cardigan and May Queen have been scratched for the Hawkesbury Handicap. The latest betting is 3 to 1 against Lamond, 5 to 1 Ellerdale, 7 to 1 Bustler, 8 to 1 Touchstone.
