Feilding Jockey Club
The annual meeting of the^above was held at the Empire Hotel on Thursdaj' nig] it, when twenty-four members were present. Mr F. Y. Lethbridge, president, occupied the chair. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The report and balance-sheet were read and adopted. The receipts for the year were £166 18s sd, and expenditure £641 4s 4d. The assets are — Cash in hand, i'2o4 14s 6d ; outstanding subscriptions, &c , £33 13s Id. Mr Sherwill spoke of the arrears owing by members. He thought they should be collected. Mr Light suggested that a committee be appointed. The Chairman said the Secretary would, no doubt, do all that was necessary. Mr J. E. Henry thanked the Club for appointing him handicapper. He considered the confidence they had extended towards him had been the means of his having been similarly appointed by other clubs. Mr Haybittle said he observed the sum of £8 was still due to the Band since Easter. He considered this was not only unbusinesslike, but unfair to a number of hard working men, who could ill afford to lie out of their money. No explanation was given. Mr Morey suggested, in connection with arrears for members' subscriptions that no tickets should be given up by the Secretary unless the money was paid at the same time. Mr Henry suggested that Mr Lethbridge should be elected a life member of the Club. Ultimately, at the request of the Chairman, it was decided to allow the Committee to act on these proposals. The election of officers was then proceeded with and resulted as follows : — President, F. Y. Lethbridge; vice-presi-dent, D. H. Macarthur, Esq., M.H.8. ; stewards, Messrs Rutherford, Goodbehere, W. G. Haybittle, Morey, Sherwill, Bailey, Gosling, who, with the following gentlemen, were also elected as the Committee, Messrs N. Gorton, Pringle, Benson, Cameron, and Saxon ; judge, Mr D. Downes ; clerk of scales, Mr W. G. Haybittle ; handicapper, Mr I, E. Henry ; starter, Mr Durie ; timekeeper, Mr H, W. Haybittle ; treasurer, Mr E. S. Alleu ; secretary, Mr W. A. Sandilands ; clerk of course, Mr R. Roake. Mr J. E. Henry was proposed as secretary by Mr Gosling, and seconded by Mr Light. Both gentlemen spoke very highly of the ability of Mr Henry for the position. Mr Goodbahere replied on behalf of Mr Sandilands, and on a ballot being taken the latter was re-elected by a majority often over his opponent. It was resolved that the Hack Race Meeting be held on Friday, December 27th, and the big race meeting on Easter Monday. It was put by Mr Gosling, and seconded by Mr Wilson, as a suggestion that ;£l5O be given for the Hack meeting. The Committee will meet on Monday next, at Hastie's Hotel, to draw up the programme. A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings.
