HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES. (pee unitkd fbeBs association} Monday, Sbptember2. The North Island Main Trunk Railway Loan Application Bill was committed. Clause 2, additional sum of J120.285 allocated for land purchases. — Mr Bruce expressed a hope that none of this money would be spent in the Taranaki district. — It was pointed out in the discussion which ensued that the New Plymouth Harbor Board were entitled to 25 per cent of the land fund which would apply to all Crown lands. The clause was carried. The Minister moved a new clause preventing the acquisition by private persons of land along the line for two years. The Bill was reported with amendments. Sir John Hall protested against that part of the Bill which provided that the; only payments to be made on account of the land should be ihose to County Councils and Road Boards.
Mr Fisher moved the adjournment of the debate, stating that he did so, though he had voted for the amendment men. tioned, because after the speech of Sir John Hall he thought time should be given for consideration of the matter. This was agreed to by the Government, and the debate was adjoniSeS till to-day. The House rose at 12.10;; -
