As a f aot Lord Cranley is progresaing- favourably, and sat up to-day for the first time. It appears he suffered a slight rheumatic pain on Saturday, but this was not looked on as of moment. It is reported that scab has broken out in a small flock of 509 hoggets running by themselves at Black Valley, a distant portion of the run of Mr John Kerr, of the Lake. The Inspector was communicated with at once, and means were, adopted for prevention. Auckland, September 2. At tha Supreme Court, F,C. Dean, late town clerk at the Thames, pleaded guilty to several charges of forgery and embezSzlement, was sentenced to four year's^ imprisonment. Michael Ryan was sentenced to 12 months' hard labour for damage to the Home of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Napikb. September 2.
