The borough ratepayers are remin led that nominations for three councillors to fill the vacancies made in the Coun oil by tbe retirement of Councillors Lethbrit>ge, Fowles and Fairfield Thompson, must he made before noon on Saturday next to the Returning Officer, Mr G. C. Hill. As yet only one candidate, Mr Sajml. J. Thompson, has been nominated.
When the Loan Application Bill is in committee, Mr J. G. Wilson will move an amendment in the direction of enabling the Government to spend money out of the loan for roads and for waterworks in the Wangauui River Mr Wilson's object is to get road communication as soon as possible, so as to facilitate tourist traffic right through the North Island. The Wanganui River could be used for traffic in place of the road in winter, and an expenditure of £10,000 would do all the riverwork that is necessary up to Taumeranui,
